I can't get Canon Digital Photo Professional to install

I just got an EOS R5 and I want to experiment with the dual pixel capability.
I download the installer for DPP from Canon, version 4.13.10, and run it.
I run into a dialog that says extracting files.
That dialog disappears and so naught. The installer app isn't running.
I've got a 2020 iMac running Os 10.xv.seven
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks!

Probably a silly question, but yous are downloading the Mac version and not the windows version, right?   Honestly I don't think it gives you the selection when it detects your OS, but thought I'd inquire.

Re: I can't become Canon Digital Photo Professional person to install

Take yous followed the instructions?

https://hk.catechism/en/back up/0200627009/one?model=3829C

I'grand not sure if this is the same Canon site you lot used, but it sounds like the downloadable file is a .zip file.  Nothing would happen when you double-clicked on that, except that the computer would unpack it.  It wouldn't be running an installer automatically.

Inside the .zip file is a .dmg file – a disk epitome.  Double-clicking on that i won't start the installer, either.  It will mount the disk image on the Desktop - you'll run into what appears to be another bulldoze.

On that drive is the installer, and when yous double-click information technology, information technology will start.

No question is light-headed. I did download the Mac version.

Re: I can't get Catechism Digital Photo Professional to install

Sadly the problem occurs when I click on the installer in the .dmg window, dppm4.thirteen.ten-installer.
It displays an "extracting files" progress window, that window disappears and there is no running process left to really exercise annihilation.
As I empathize it what I should run into is a dialog request for my language and location.
I found an old post that got this to work by creating a new admin account on the computer and installing the software through that but I was hoping in that location was a meliorate way.
Thanks for your suggestion however.

Every bit I sympathise it what I should see is a dialog asking for my linguistic communication and location.
I found an old post that got this to work past creating a new admin account on the computer and installing the software through that but I was hoping there was a better fashion.
Thank you for your suggestion however.

In the Finder,

  • Concord down the Pick key
  • Click on the Become menu
  • Click on Library (which will only be in the menu if you held Pick)
  • Double-click the Preferences binder inside the Library folder

And so look for two files named

  • com.canon.Digital Photograph Professional person.plist
  • com.catechism.Digital Photo Professional Batch.plist

If you lot observe them, delete them, or rename them (to something similar (whatever).old_plist).  Do the same with whatsoever other com.canon.Digital Photo Professional type preference files that you lot might notice living at that place, in your user-level Preferences binder.

Then endeavour running the installer again.

I don't think you demand to create a new admin account – just to go rid of whatsoever old, crufted preference files that might be in a particular user acount.  Creating an admin account does that (since the new account won't start with any), only cleaning up an existing account should piece of work just too.

Re: I can't become Catechism Digital Photograph Professional to install

I just went through this myself. In settings>users brand sure yous have checked the box for your user profile to be an administrator.

As shortly as I inverse it to that from a split up admin profile information technology worked instantly. I searched for days on this topic and nobody explained it very clearly. Not certain I did either but it was that uncomplicated.

Creating an admin account does that (since the new account won't first with any), but cleaning up an existing business relationship should work just every bit well.

Thanks only there are no canon plist files in my preferences folder, which was invisible by the way.

Re: I tin't get Canon Digital Photo Professional to install

Yes, running the installer in an admin account seems necessary. I ran into the same installation problems on macOS Big Sur (11.4) as the original affiche. When running in a standard user business relationship, the Canon installer does not inquire for admin credentials, but silently fails.

Switching to an admin business relationship for installation allowed me to go by this and install the software successfully.

For running the software, a standard user account is sufficient.

As soon as I changed it to that from a carve up admin profile it worked instantly. I searched for days on this topic and nobody explained information technology very clearly. Non certain I did either merely it was that simple.

Re: I can't get Catechism Digital Photo Professional to install

I tin can't become DPPro to install no thing what. Always fails at the aforementioned spot: Extracting Files. The installer image mounts on my desktop and the Os asks me to give information technology permission to run, then it dies halfway through, every time.

I take an older version already installed, just information technology won't save JPEG's at present that. I have Os Big Sur. I tried deleting the prefs in the organisation'south Library/Prefs and in the user-level prefs folders. There was one plist in my user folder.

Canon's website auto-detected that I have OS Catalina, and it displayed dppm4.15.0-installer. Did non work. I rebooted, selected that I have OS Big Sur, and it dsplayed dppm4.xiv.0-installer. Withal didn't piece of work. I filed a report with Canon that it incorrectly identifies the Os and recommends an older version for the newer Bone, which must be a website issues.

FINALLY!! Got it to install

I had to create a new user account, with Administrator privileges.  That did the trick! I tried everything else I could retrieve of, without any luck. It makes no sense at all why I had to resort to this.

Honestly, I'k sick and tired of Apple tree adding stupid features, like Maps and Siri and translucent windows. I wish they'd just spend two years fixing bugs and working with developers to make the platform more than stable. I asked Siri why the software wouldn't install. She didn't have a clue.

I wouldn't assume that the problem is acquired past an OS issues. . . Unless you have found info that proves otherwise, of course.  Information technology'south more likely a problem with the installer.

Re: FINALLY!! Got information technology to install

Perhaps...

You lot might contact Canon and suggest them of the issue.

The issue may be with Canon

The outcome may be with Apple tree

Canon are in a position to resolve this and liaise with Apple as needed

Your feedback may prompt a set which may assistance other users

Promise this helps

I'll try, but Catechism'south website is pretty ghetto right now.

Example One: It auto-detects the wrong Bone

Case 2: Information technology recommends older software for newer OS versions.

Example 3: When I reported this, they did not transport any response

Example Four, When I tried to login to support to file the report you suggested (good thought!) their website simply displays an error page, "Referer [SIC] header is required." They can't even spell right.

I'll effort to call them tomorrow, just this is getting pretty pathetic.

Re: FINALLY!! Got it to install

Based on your reply in a higher place - the problem may well be with the way Canon have designed (?) the installer rather than an overall Apple event.

Do let u.s. know how you become on as others may be able to learn from your experience and this thread

Another thought that comes to mind is that it is an older installer that may have issues with the ramped up security in Catalina and Big Sur, forth with the hardening of Mac hardware e.g. T2 chips.

Information technology certainly appears that Canon is experiencing client service issues in multiple areas.
